Update – Be sure to jump over to the Centsible In Seattle Facebook page for reader comments on their experiences with Netflix. Its some great info. Many are using it as a more affordable alternative to cable, which I had not even considered initially!

I am a big Redbox fan (in fact there is a free Redbox Promo code you can share with your FB friends, good today only (2/14)).  What I am finding out though, is that Redbox is not as cheap as I would like to think it is. For this reason I will be trying out a free trial membership of Netflix, and wanted to let you all know about the opportunity, AND elicit feedback from those of you who are already Netflix members.

There are a few reasons why I plan to try Netflix:

  • The price at Redbox is going up (new releases are now over $1).
  • Usually when we rent I get a movie for me and the hubbie, one for the younger kiddos and one for the teen (so a minimum of 3 movies per visit).
  • I am not great about getting movies returned the very next day.

All of these facts aside, renting movies is still one of the cheaper forms of entertainment for my family. Its a quick and affordable way to make a weekend feel like a weekend. So, I have been considering trying out Netflix.

  • Netflix is a monthly movie membership where you pay $7.99 a month and get -
  • The ability to stream movies instantly over the internet to your computer or TV.
  • Watch as often as you want, no returning the movie necessary (aka – no late fees).
  • The ability to cancel the membership any time (no contract required).

Best part is that they offer a free 30 day trial membership for you to test out the program to see if it works for you. According to my math, this will not only offer my family convenience of not having to go out to rent the movies, I think it will actually save us money (mostly because I have so many age ranges in my family so its hard to find one movie for all, and I am bad at getting my movies back on time).  So I am going to give the free one month membership a try. I wanted to provide info for any of you interested in trying it out too, in case you are running into some of the same issues my family is.

If any of you are already Netflix members, or have tried it previously, I would love to hear from you regarding your experience. Did you love it? Hate it? How does it compare to Redbox for you, etc.

Fine Print on the FREE Trial Program -

Simply cancel anytime during your 1 month free membership, and you will not be charged. To cancel, click on “Your Account” and follow the simple cancellation instructions. If you are enjoying Netflix, do nothing and your membership will automatically continue at the monthly subscription rate for the plan you selected.
